Expectations and rules

We have very high expectations of the children, both in terms of achievement and behaviour. During the first week, we will be working with the children to design a set of class rules, as well as learning the whole school rules. Within both classes, we have a reward and sanction scheme, where the children start with their names on a green happy face, and can get their name moved onto the gold star for exceptional work and behaviour. They may have their name moved onto the orange or red face for unacceptable  behaviour. If their name is on the red face, you will be informed at the end of the day. For serious or repeated bad behaviour, the child will spend some time with Mrs Peters, the Foundation Stage leader. We encourage good learning behaviour such as being resilient and resourceful, and this will always be recognised and praised.

We have an open door policy so if you ever need to speak to us, please feel free to approach us at either the beginning or end of the day. For a longer chat, we will happily make an appointment at a mutually suitable time.

We have lots planned for the children and we will let you know what we have been learning through a weekly newsletter. This will also include a homework task, which will be a short (often practical) activity for you to complete with your child. This is designed to be fun, and to consolidate the learning your child has been doing in class. For any recorded homework, we will be sending out a homework journal, which you are free to cover/decorate as you wish.

Curriculum and outings

Our first topic is ‘Where we live’ and it focuses on houses, shops, our local environment, and people who help us. We will be sending out a topic grid for you to have a look in more detail at our plans for this half term. We will also post regular blogs on the school website, so you will be able to have a look at what we have been doing.

We will go on one school trip during the year (more details to follow), and we may also go on some local outings.

During the summer term, we will be putting on a class assembly for parents (Owl and Rabbit class will do separate performances) and we will let you know as soon as these dates have been confirmed.

What you will need

  • PE kits - Both classes will have PE on Thursday, however it is important to leave their kits at school as we may sometimes need to change this day. PE kits will be sent home every half term to wash. Your child will need, blue shorts, a white t shirt and some plimsolls. As the weather turns colder, you will need to send in some tracksuit bottoms.
  • We plan to take the children outside in all weathers so please ensure your child is appropriately dressed (sunhat for the warm weather, waterproof coat with a hood for the winter).
  • Please ensure your child brings a named water bottle into school every day. We encourage the children to drink as much as possible throughout the day
  • A book bag – please look in this every day as we may send letters home

We look forward to getting to know you and your child over the coming year.
