Ellingham Primary School

Strong roots for flourishing futures

29th January 2017

Xin Nian Hao!

This is pronounced 'Shin nee-an how' and is the Mandarin way to say 'Happy New Year' to friends and family. We have also learnt the more popular Cantanese saying 'Gong hei fat choy' which offers the recipient a wish for prosperity in the year ahead.

Saturday 28th January began the Year of the Rooster for Chinese people all around the world. Nursery spent this week preparing for the celebrations. Red and yellow paint footprints were used to make the scales on a dragon's tail.

The Dragon dance is one of

main attractions in the

celebration parades.

Using tweezers and chop sticks in play this week helped improve our fine motor skills...

Finally we sat in our own Chinese restaurant to celebrate with egg fried rice, vegetable spring rolls and everybody's favourite ...prawn crackers!
