Ellingham Primary School

Strong roots for flourishing futures

School Council

We actively encourage all of the children to have a voice and to become independent learners and thinkers. Two members of each class, from year 2-6, belong to the School Council, which meets regularly to discuss and make decisions related to a variety of school issues.

Years 5 and 6

The children in Years 5 and 6 have the opportunity to take on a range of roles and responsibilities. These roles are applied for and the children fill in application forms answering questions as to why they are best suited for the job. The successful candidates are then selected and in most cases undergo some training.

Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister

The Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister are elected by the pupils.  They work with the staff and Mr Light to ensure the school runs smoothly on a daily basis. They represent Year 6 on the School Council and are often asked to minute the meetings and work with staff and the attached Governor to write reports at various points of the year.

The  Year 6 Prefect team are role models to other pupils and work with Mr Light, staff and the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister to ensure the school runs smoothly on a daily basis.

They help ensure that other pupils conduct themselves in an orderly and appropriate manner.

They are expected to be aware of the school rules and follow them at all times. When the school has visitors, they may be asked to work with the School Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister to show people around and answer any questions.

Star and Reward Monitors

Our Star and Rewards Monitors work with Mr Light to collect information from each class prior to Friday's celebration assembly.  It is the responsibility of the Award monitors to ensure that the relevant information is ready to share with the school during these assemblies. They work with teaching staff to record the achievements of children across the school in order to celebrate them accordingly.
