Ellingham Primary School

Strong roots for flourishing futures

PE and Sport Funding

The government provides funding to improve physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. Each school is given the choice of how to spend their funding but it must ensure that it is spent on enabling children to play and enjoy sport regularly. This year the funding has been doubled. See below for details -

Q1: What is the total amount of PE and Sport Premium received for 2017-2018?

The  total amount of funding we will receive is £17,560.

Q2: How does Ellingham spend the funding received for PE and Sport?

Ellingham uses the funding in a variety of ways. These include:

  • Employing coaches to run sports activities with all children during lunch times
  • Providing training for staff on how to teach particular sports during PE lessons, e.g. football and ball skills.
  • Ensuring staff are available to take children to sports events and competitions to represent ‘Team Ellingham.’
  • Providing transportation to ensure our children can access sporting events and weekly sessions of swimming.
  • Purchasing equipment for our PE curriculum to ensure it is well-resourced

Q3: How do we measure the impact of our PE and Sport Premium initiatives?

The school uses a wide range of data and information to measure the impact of the PE and Sport Premium spending. This includes:

  • Improved PE provision – progression and continuity of skills
  • Teachers feedback from courses/training to be cascaded to others to share best practice
  • Pupil voice – questionnaires, school council feedback
  • A well-designed and evaluated PE curriculum with appropriate resources in place to enable effective teaching.
  • Success at competitions and organised events
  • The use of Kingston School Sports Partnership Attendance Register to measure our attendance at different sports events, organised locally.
  • Supporting the school in gaining the School Games Mark.
