Reading for Pleasure at Ellingham

Our Curriculum Event this Wednesday provided a wonderful opportunity for families to learn about the incredible value of Reading for Pleasure and how we can work in partnership to ensure a love of reading is promoted both in school and at home.

Thank you so much to those who managed to attend. The children loved welcoming their families into their classroom to share a story with them and teachers were grateful for the opportunity to meet parents and share year group expectations and key information.

For those who were unable to attend, the presentation will be available on Monday so that you can find out more about your child's year group and the exciting year ahead.

500 Words Story Competition-Calling all budding authors and illustrators!

This week, the BBC have opened up their 500 words story writing competition. This year the theme is "write a story you would love to read". Entries close on Friday 10th November at 8pm.

LEARNING TOGETHER

Insight Assembly

Insight delivered an assembly on Christianity this week where the children learnt about the importance of forgiveness.

Year 1 Scientists

Year 1 classified different fruit and vegetables using their senses in science, starting on their journey to be incredible Ellingham scientists.

Year 2 Learning Stacks Up

Year 2 have been busy learning how to measure and compare in their maths lessons this week. They were so engaged in their learning and they loved working together to use cubes to measure their lockers!

Year 2 Playground Artists

Year 2 explored texture in Art this week and took rubbings of different surfaces in the playground.

Can you spot any that are bumpy, rough or smooth?

Year 5 - Making Music

Year 5 have had their first lesson using the glockenspiels, learning to play along with the song 'Words can hurt'.

We learnt the beginning of the first verse and we're very proud of our achievement.

Year 6 Experience Victorian School Life

Year 6 thoroughly enjoyed their immersive Victorian school experience today, even being told off by their very strict teachers!

Within the day they experienced what life was like for poor Victorian children including: arithmetic and handwriting lessons only using their right hands, tasting gruel and making Victorian toys.  During the afternoon, boys and girls were separated: boys completed technical drawings whilst the girls practised their sewing skills. The children had a fantastic day and we loved all their outfits! Take a look at their staged Victorian school photo.
